THE MISSION STATEMENT
Building confidence, creativity, discipline, and passion in our youth through the art of dance.

THE PROGRAM
Miami Dance Collective’s The Company is a ballet-based program designed to provide a strong technical foundation while building individual artistry. This program is designed to fulfill the needs of serious dance students who seek opportunities that will eventually permit them to transition from a pre-professional studio to a professional dance career or University dance program. Company members will perform annually in their own concert held during the Spring season and will attend several convention/competition events. Dancers will also be given the opportunity to train and work with guest choreographers.

THE AUDITION
All dancers interested in being considered for the 2018/2019 must audition in person. Please call to set up an audition time.  Please send inquiries to management@miamidancecollective.com.  Minimum age for consideration is 8.

COMPANY:  CONVENTION/COMPETITION
Each season The Company will attend and compete at several dance conventions.  Dancers will compete at regional and national level conventions (see Company Schedule for more info or email Management@miamidancecollective.com for more info).

WHY DOES THE MIAMI DANCE COLLECTIVE ATTEND DANCE CONVENTIONS AND COMPETITIONS?

Dance conventions and competitions offer a variety of growth experiences for dancers.  Dancers are given the opportunity to take class from industry-acclaimed teachers, meet dancers from all over the country, and create life-long bonds with these dancers and teachers.  We compete for many reasons.  Dancers receive opinions and expertise from dozens of industry professionals each year.  Dancing competitively also prepares dancers for the “real world” pressures of being professional dancers. They learn how to rehearse effectively, work efficiently in class to prepare, push through nerves, build extreme focus, and learn how to get comfortable under stage lights.  Most importantly, they learn how to command a stage!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Dancers must attend all scheduled competitions.
All dancers will be required to take classes listed on schedule for their age group. All weekly rehearsals and extra practices are MANDATORY.
Dancers are allowed 3 unexcused absences per semester during the season.  Unexcused absences do not include illness, school-related activities or absences pre-approved by instructors.
There will be no excused absences the week of a competition/convention or performance.
All technique classes may be made up on another day if missed, but must be made up within the same month.
We will compete in three to four mandatory dance competitions (1 out of state) as a full company; Youth will only compete in Florida. NYCDA Nationals Finals in June or July will be voted on at the first company meeting.  (First meeting date TBA)
Dancers who wish to compete at additional convention/competitions are welcome to do so.

All dancers must arrive 10 minutes before class and be ready to go when the class starts.
Enter the class with a positive attitude, ready to work hard and aspire to inspire your company.

COMPETITION/CONVENTION FEES
All tuition and competition fees must be paid in the month they are due.
A teacher's fee will be calculated and posted on the company competition schedule.  This fee is the cost of hotel, per diem, and teacher pay for the weekend and will be divided between the dancers.  Example: if hotel is $350, per diem is $150, teacher pay is $250 and two teachers attend, the total fee would be $1500.  If divided by 50 dancers attending, each dancer would pay $30 on top of the fees charged for the competition. (Entry fees are listed on Convention/Competition websites)

SOLOS, DUOS, & TRIOS
If a dancer chooses to perform a solo, duo or trio, the fee is $350 (up to 3 hrs), $100 per additional hr. Duos will split the price. Soloists are responsible for reviewing their choreography after completion.  Private cleaning sessions must be scheduled prior to competing a solo.

GUEST CHOREOGRAPHER FEES
Estimated Rates: approximately $100 per dancer for a large group and $150 per dancer for small groups.  This fee covers the airfare, accommodations, per diem, and choreography of the individual guest choreographer.  Casting is done while the guest choreographer is at the studio and, therefore, exact fees can not be calculated ahead of time.  Costs will be divided equally among participating dancers.  Solos/Duo/Trios with outside choreographers must be approved by directors before booking.

COMPANY COSTUMING
COMPETITIVE COSTUME FEES WILL BE POSTED BY October 1st.
A 50% deposit will be charged October 31st.
Costume balances will be due upon completion of each costume.

Should a dancer drop out of a piece after competition practices begin, there will be no refund for costume deposits and the dancer will be responsible for the full price of all costumes.  Costumes for competitive dances usually run between $50 and $125 for each group costume.  Costumes which are custom or handmade are usually the most expensive.  We will also utilize clothing items from home to  minimize expense.

Dancers are responsible for solo and duo/trio costumes.  Costumes must be approved by directors.  Payments for guest choreography costumes must be paid in full upon completion of choreography.
